Home and land ownership is a prime engine of economic prosperity and assures that the public holds private property rights in high regard. The vast majority of the wealth of individuals is held in the equity of their homes and land. As such, home and land owners, pay the vast majority of taxes in the state of Texas. Because they finance such a large portion of the Texas government, property owners must have a strong voice in Austin. The Home and Land Owners’ Association of Texas is a powerful and growing force promoting and protecting home and land owners. GUIDING PRINCIPLES
• The cost of good government should not be an undue burden upon the taxpayer because the taxpayer is aware of the benefit, necessity, and wisdom of the purpose for which their money is taken.
• The government should never take one penny more than is absolutely necessary from the wealth of its citizens.
• The individual knows best how to use and increase the value of their property and wealth.
• The right of the individual to won property without fear of confiscation is the bedrock of the rule of law.
